LeBron James is planning to produce a “Last Dance”-style documentary to chronicle the final seasons of his NBA career and his move to the Philadelphia 76ers, according to multiple reports.

ESPN is close to reaching an agreement related to the project, The Athletic reported on Tuesday, July 30, though potential financial terms and and tentative release date were still unknown. It’s expected that James will have a camera crew following him throughout the 2026-27 season with the 76ers, in addition to the documentary featuring new behind-the-scenes footage from previous seasons.

James, 41, will attempt to become the first player in NBA history to win a championship with four different teams when he plays for the 76ers. He chose to sign with Philadelphia on a two-year, $8-million contract and indicated it would be his “last decision.” The Sixers will be a top Eastern Conference contender with James joining Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid.

“The Last Dance” featured behind-the-scenes access from the final NBA championship run Michael Jordan made with the Chicago Bulls, and the 10-part documentary also included never-before-seen footage and interviews from throughout Jordan’s career. It premiered to great acclaim and fanfare in the spring of 2020 when there were no sports events taking place due to the COVID-19 pandemic and won a Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding documentary or nonfiction series.
