There has been plenty of speculation about what will come for Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James after the 2025-26 campaign, but his agent offered a word of advice for those thinking about James’ future.
Rich Paul told ESPN’s Shams Charania that fans should appreciate watching James rather than wondering what might come next.
“It’s important not to worry about the future when it comes to LeBron James, just appreciate the present,” Paul told Charania (2:35 mark).
Of course, James has a few important decisions to make within the next year. The first is whether or not he wants to keep playing at all beyond the 2025-26 season, and the other is where he will spend the 2026-27 season if he does play.
James exercised his player option for the upcoming season, meaning he’s contractually tied to Los Angeles for another year, but after that, he’ll be a free agent.
Charania noted that James will continue to think about whether he fits into the Lakers system and whether they’re going to be a contender or not. Charania also said James will think about his son, Bryce, who will be a freshman at Arizona this season.
If Bryce has the chance to join James and Bronny in the league next year, that would likely motivate James to stick around for another season.
Oftentimes, players retire because they can no longer make an impact on a team, but that won’t be the case for James if he chooses to call it quits any time soon. Despite being 40 years old, James put up 24.4 points, 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game last season.
He’ll likely still be able to play at a high level in the years to come, but who he’ll play for, if he does continue his career, is the question.
