Michael Amadio has come to the Ottawa Senators exactly as advertised.
In the first six games, the veteran winger has been a fine two-way forward for the Senators and brought the intangibles of leading by example and a winning pedigree.
Amadio won a Stanley Cup with the Vegas Golden Knights two years ago, and after he signed a three-year contract at $2.6 million per year with Ottawa in the off-season, he probably had tomorrow’s game in Las Vegas circled on his calendar in gold Sharpie.
Amadio probably didn’t think he’d arrive in his old stomping grounds with goose eggs across his stat line through six games and a minus-three. But no one in Ottawa seems remotely concerned. Not yet, anyway.
All of Amadio’s underlying numbers look fantastic so far, to the point where, despite the lack of actual goals and assists, Sens head coach Travis Green recently placed Amadio on a line with Tim Stutzle and Brady Tkachuk.
The points flowed in the pre-season for Amadio, who had five points in four games. At some point, the regular season dam will break. What better time than in his Vegas homecoming?
Regardless, the Sault Ste. Marie native will likely be somewhat emotional during Friday’s game against his old team. He was an important player on the Golden Knights’ 2023 Stanley Cup-winning run, recording 10 points with a +8 rating in 16 games.
Amadio scored in the Cup-clinching game and even threw in a double overtime game-winner for good measure during that run.
Amadio had been with the Golden Knights since the 2021-22 season when he was claimed off of waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Before that, he had a five-game stint with the Senators after playing parts of four seasons with the Los Angeles Kings.
