More big-name NFL quarterbacks are reportedly restructuring their contracts to create cap space for their teams.
Close to a month after it was reported that the Kansas City Chiefs had reworked Patrick Mahomes’ deal to free up more than $40 million in cap room, the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions have used their franchise quarterbacks’ contracts to move some money around, per multiple reports Wednesday.

Baltimore needed to make room for the reported four-year, $112 million deal it agreed to with former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson on Wednesday. The Ravens created nearly $40 million in cap space by restructuring Lamar Jackson’s contract, according to ESPN.
Baltimore reportedly triggered a clause that automatically restructures Jackson’s deal. As a result, his 2026 cap figure of $74.5 million plummeted to $34.54 million, in effect giving the Ravens $39.96 million in cap space, per ESPN, which also reported that Jackson’s cap number in 2027 is now $84.49 million instead of $74.5 million.

After reworking Josh Allen’s deal, Bills free up approximately $12 million in cap room, per report
Last March, Josh Allen inked a six-year, $330 million extension through the 2030 season. A year later, Allen agreed to restructure that contract in a move that affords the Bills approximately $12 million in cap room, according to The Associated Press.
More specifically, per the AP, the restructuring consists of the Bills converting $15.2 million of Allen’s 2026 salary into a signing bonus.

Buffalo was around $32 million over the cap a week ago, the AP reported. Since, the Bills have reportedly struck a trade to send cornerback Taron Johnson to the Las Vegas Raiders and made some more room by releasing players ahead of the new league year.
Like Jackson, a 29-year-old Allen is embarking on a new chapter, with the Bills pivoting from Sean McDermott to Joe Brady at head coach following a disappointing end to the 2025 campaign.
Lions, Jared Goff reportedly agree to restructure contract, saving $32 million in cap space
Detroit, meanwhile, restructured Jared Goff’s contract, turning $40 million of his base salary into a signing bonus and adding a void year to save $32 million in cap space, according to NFL Network.

Releasing left tackle Taylor Decker and and center Graham Glasgow gave the Lions some flexibility, but getting creative with Goff’s deal reportedly sets the team well under the cap leading into the new league year.
Goff, 31, signed a four-year, $212 million extension in 2024. He earned his fifth Pro Bowl nod this past season after ranking second in passing touchdowns (34) and passing yards (4,564) and tied for fifth in completion percentage (68%) among all qualifying quarterbacks in 2025.
His Lions are looking to bounce back from a fourth-place, 9-8 finish in a crowded NFC North.
