Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch has revealed that none of the drivers in the sport are his friends. Busch admitted that he was there to “beat those guys,” acknowledging that he came from a different background where he treated other drivers as competition.

In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Busch admitted traveling with the NASCAR “circus” throughout the country, and yet, he had no friends. On the other hand, he said his budding racing driver son, Brexton, has many racing driver friends because he grew up with them.

When Hannity asked Busch on the Hang Out with Sean Hannity podcast if he had any friends, Busch said no and revealed his philosophy. He said:

“There’s some guys that are friends, and they have hung out together because they grew up racing together. So like my son, he’s 10 years old, but he started racing with some of his buddies, and they hang out, they talk, and whatnot.

“But I grew up in Vegas, and when I went to the racetrack, I kind of grew up the way, like ‘You bring your friends with you, and you hate everybody else that’s there because they’re your competition.’ You wanna beat those guys, you wanna beat them into the ground, you wanna go home with the trophy, and come back and do it all again next week.”

“I’m not friends with any of them.”

Busch’s words seem to be true about the way he sees other drivers, given his reply to Denny Hamlin’s opinions about his career in his recent podcast. Hamlin compared Busch to his RCR teammate, Austin Dillon, and questioned if NASCAR’s current Next-Gen car was responsible for a decline in Busch’s performance.

However, Busch wasn’t letting Hamlin’s comments pass that easily. MotorBiscuit reported Busch’s comments from an interview before the recent Kansas race. He said:

“If Denny wants to switch cars, I’ll switch cars with him. Any day of the week, any time. I’d love for him to show me that he can carry it better than I can.”

Busch was then asked if he consumes what people say about him on social media. He said:

“I have consumed some of it over time and 80%, people don’t know what the hell they’re talking about. In this instance, I don’t feel like Denny Hamlin even knows what the hell he’s talking about. So he can bash me all he wants. I can certainly make his life hell.”
