Bretwood Golf Course member Nick Sarsfield and James Shattuck, a Beaver Meadow GC member, led the field after the opening day of the New Hampshire Stroke Play Championship on Tuesday at Bretwood in Keene.
Sarsfield, a 38-year-old Keene resident, and Penacook's Shattuck, 25, both shot a 3-under-par 69 on Bretwood's South Course.
The 54-hole event continues on Wednesday and concludes Thursday.
“I’ve played this course 1,000 times," Sarsfield told NH Golf after the round. "I know my game, get it to my number, and let my wedges and putting do the work.”
Nashua CC's Will Miele and Manchester CC's Elliot Wallace are both tied for third place with 2-under 70s. One stroke behind them are Nashua CC's Bryce Zimmerman, Sky Meadow CC's Paul Torri and Derryfield CC's Josh Kibbe.
