A bad break contributed to Justin Thomas losing the lead during the third round of the RBC Heritage on Saturday.
On the second hole, a par 5, Thomas pulled his tee shot into a waste area down the left side of the fairway when he tried to move some debris around the ball. When he did, however, the ball moved a bit, and an official was called in.
The official agreed with Thomas that his ball was in a waste area, meaning he could move anything around the ball, but if the ball itself moved, he would be given a one-stroke penalty.
When the official asked Thomas if his efforts moved the ball, he said he thought it had.
Thomas entered the third round in the lead after he followed a course-record tying 61 on Thursday with a 69 on Friday.
