A nightmare start for Josh Berry in the Southern 500. The NASCAR Playoffs have started with absolute chaos in South Carolina. Tyler Redidck was involved. Kyle Busch took a good hit. This is one heck of a way to start the postseason.
One mistake and the NASCAR Playoffs may have just changed before our very eyes. Not even a lap into the race. Josh Berry started on Row 2 and didn’t even make it out of Turn 2 without wrecking. The worst thing that could happen for the underdog playoff driver.
Not much else to say abou this one. Alex Bowman had some minor damage. Reddick and Wallace had some minor damage as well. It’s going to be a tricky night in Darlington in the Southern 500.
Josh Berry could have won this race tonight. Darlington is one of his better tracks, and he knows his way around the Lady in Black. These intermediate tracks are ones where he can take that Wood Brothers car to the front of the field and compete with the big teams.
To see Berry knocked out of this race so soon is really disappointing. As the race has gone on, the damage to Bowman and Busch has proven to be serious. They are not the same cars after that incident and will need a few big breaks to make it back to the lead lap tonight.
Right now, for Bowman and Berry, things have taken a turn for the worst in terms of the playoffs. Gateway and Bristol are more than likely going to be must-win situations for those teams as they try to fight for a spot in the Round of 12.
Josh Berry makes major mistake in first playoff race
The win at Las Vegas this season was great. Josh Berry raced his way to his first Cup Series victory and punched the Wood Brothers’ ticket back to the NASCAR Playoffs. It is a terrible shame it has started out this way for Berry and the 21 team.
Such an iconic team. Berry has given that group an identity this season. He is a short-track racer at heart, but is a driver who belongs in the Cup Series. Make no mistake about it, Berry belongs in one of the 36 cars on the track each week.
Josh Berry got off to a rough start. But in his case, he could actually be a contender at Gateway next week. For now, it’s an early end to the race for Berry.
