Jack’s Place gave players fits on Friday.
“I felt like I was going to shoot about 90 today,” said world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who managed to do better than that with an even-par 72, but it wasn’t always pretty.

J.T. Poston wasn’t complaining too much after a tourney-best 7-under 65, but even he conceded he’d had a special day.
“Every year it’s a great test. It’s going to expose a part of your game that’s not sharp. I think that’s what we love,” he said. “It feels like a major a lot of times, a lot of weeks.”
The Memorial is one of the 72-man field signature events with a 36-hole cut and several notables failed to shoot 5-over 149 or better to earn a weekend tee time. A total of 19 golfers fell short. Here’s a closer look at some of those on the wrong side of the cutline.

Who missed the cut at the 2026 Memorial?
Jordan Spieth

Jordan Spieth walks on the 17th hole during the second round of the 2026 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
The tournament started with so much promise for Spieth, who holed a 62-foot birdie on Thursday en route to shooting a solid 1-under 71. But Friday, he shot 7-over 79, his highest round of the season by three shots. It marked just his second missed cut of the season in 15 starts. It’s the second time in the last three year that he missed the cut at Jack’s Place. Spieth’s iron game let him down on Friday. He hit just 7 of 18 greens and ranked dead last in the field in Strokes Gained: Approach and proximity to the hole.
Billy Horschel
Billy Horschel plays his shot from the second tee during the second round of the 2026 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
The 2022 Memorial champ played this week on a sponsor’s exemption. He shot 74-76. He struggled off the tee in the first round and his short game wasn’t up to snuff in the second. Horschel has missed the cut in three of his last four starts and two of his last three Memorial tournaments.

Jason Day
Jason Day plays his shot from the 12th tee during the second round of the 2026 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
Despite sleeping in his RV in his own driveway half an hour away, Day has never felt at home at Muirfield Village. He has just one top 10 in 16 career starts and has missed the cut in two of the last three years. Day was looking safe to make the cut until he doubled the par-5 11th and bogeyed 18 to miss by one. Day’s iron game continues to let him down. He ranked 70th in SG: Approach the Green on Thursday and 66th for the two rounds combined. He hit only half the greens in regulation on Friday and was 4 of 9 in scrambling, and rounds of 74-76 sent him packing.
Robert MacIntyre
Robert MacIntyre plays his shot from the second tee during the second round of the 2026 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
The amiable Scotsman is in a mini-slump, having missed the cut in three of his last six cuts – and two of them were no-cut events. MacIntyre was 2 for 9 in scrambling en route to a first-round 77. It didn’t help that his putter was cold, ranking 62nd of 72 players on Thursday.

Ben Griffin
Ben Griffin plays a shot from a bunker on the 17th hole during the first round of the 2026 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
Last year’s Memorial runner up is on this year’s cut list. A birdie-free 77 on Friday did him in. On Thursday, Griffin hit just four fairways, tied for worst in the field. It was a poor putting week for Griffin, who lost close to 4 strokes to the field with his short stick and ranked 68th in the field in SGP.
Akshay Bhatia
Akshay Bhatia plays his shot from the first tee during the second round of the 2026 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
It was a freaky Friday for Bhatia, who failed to make a birdie in the second round and shot 8-over 80. He made four bogeys on each side. It’s the second straight year he’s shot 80 at Jack’s Place. Bhatia was 71st in Strokes Gained: Approach and 70th in SG: Tee to Green on Friday. After a strong start to the season, including a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Bhatia has missed the cut at two of his last three starts and hasn’t finished in the top 10 in seven starts since his victory.

Rickie Fowler
Rickie Fowler plays his shot from a bunker on the 18th hole during the first round of the 2026 Memorial Tournament.
There will be no Sunday orange this year for Fowler at Muirfield Village. Not after shooting 79-82, no sir. Fowler had a string of three straight top 10s at the last three signature events but he’s been battling a sinus infection and perhaps that’s why his game wasn’t up to par. The 82 tied Fowler’s career high at Jack’s Place. Fowler’s game stunk pretty much across the board but he was particularly poor in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green, in which he was dead last, and also 6 of 20 in scrambling, the worst percentage in the 72-man field.
Alex Smalley
Alex Smalley lines up a putt on the first green during the first round of the 2026 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
The wheels fell off for Smalley, who had made 12 straight cuts this season, and missed the weekend for just the second time all season. Smalley had seven straight top-25 finishes and a pair of seconds during that stretch. But the Memorial wasn’t his week. He opened with 83, losing 10.2 strokes to the field, and the worst round of the 474 he’s played on Tour in his career. Friday was only a little better as he shot 76. but even he conceded he’d had a special day. “Every year it’s a great test. It’s going to expose a part of your game that’s not sharp. I think that’s what we love,” he said. “It feels like a major a lot of times, a lot of weeks.” The Memorial is one of the 72-man field signature events with a 36-hole cut and several notables were sent packing on Friday.
