John Daly’s entire career has been about fun. The golfer has never shied away from being himself. That trait has gotten him in some hot water, at times, but has also made him an endearing athlete in a mostly buttoned-up sport.

It certainly helps that Daly has no qualms about poking fun at himself when the situation calls for it. That was the case early Monday, when Daly posted a video in which he bellyflopped into a penalty area after hitting a shot at the Cologuard Classic on Sunday.

Daly shared the video on his Instagram page with the caption, “On today’s episode of ‘Jacka**.’”

The video began with a shot of Daly hitting from an … unusual position … on a hill near the green. Given the title of the video, you can probably guess what happened next.

Daly took his swing, lost his footing and immediately started sliding down the hill. While he remained on his feet at first, the 59-year-old Daly eventually bellyflopped and slid completely out of frame, prompting a few bystanders to come chasing after him.

While Daly did not re-emerge in the short clip, he’s clearly doing OK considering he’s the one who shared it.

Despite that particular shot, Daly did pretty well at the Cologuard Classic, finishing with a score of -6. That tied him for 29th at the event.

And, it would appear Daly managed to avoid a major injury following his tumble. All and all, that’s a pretty good weekend for the golf pro.
