Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich announced Tuesday that rookie OL Olu Fashanu‘s season is over, as he’ll be placed on the injured reserve with plantar fasciitis and will need surgery.

“Unfortunately his season is done,” Ulbrich told reporters via Zoom.

Fashanu suffered the injury during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 19-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He played in 15 games with seven starts during his rookie year after being drafted with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Penn State.

“I’m not sure the extent of the injury. I’m fairly certain that they’re going to have to go in there and have a procedure to fix it,” Ulbrich added. “Probably once they collect more information regarding that, we’ll have a better idea of when he’ll be available.

“It’s unfortunate, he’s having a great rookie season. But at the same time, these injuries sometimes give you an opportunity to step back and really start absorbing some of the information as you were kind of thrown into the fire. He’ll use it as an opportunity to grow, I know that.”

Fashanu owned a 61.2 overall grade, according to PFF, which placed him 71st out of 133 qualifying offensive tackles. He allowed just one sack and was called for only seven penalties over 534 offensive snaps played.
