Just two days into training camp, the Jets had their first injury scare.

QB Justin Fields was carted off during Thursday’s practice session after dislocating a toe in his right foot and will be day-to-day, the team said. It wasn't his big toe, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The starters came back on the field as Gang Green was running through team drills, and they ran one play, which was an incomplete pass, then Fields went down.

The 26-year-old walked off the field gingerly and was evaluated by trainers before being carted off.

The Jets ended that session of practice after, turning to special teams drills.

"I really have to look at the tape. I know it was a quick throw. I’m assuming someone stepped on his toe," head coach Aaron Glenn said after practice. "It had to be because of the nature of the call that we had as far as the offensive play call. I want to look at the tape to be sure."

Fields, of course, signed with the Jets on a big money two-year deal this offseason with the expectation of replacing Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback.

He spent last season with the Steelers and mainly served as the backup behind new Giants QB Russell Wilson, but he did impress during brief stints filling in for Wilson, leading the team to a 4-2 record.

The former No. 11 overall pick showcased his dual-threat capabilities — completing 65 percent of his passes for 1,106 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing 62 times for 289 yards and five more touchdowns.

Now in a new system, the hope was that he'd be able to reach into some of his untapped potential as a passer.

If Fields were to miss any time it would have been a significant blow for the Jets, but Glenn still expressed plenty of confidence in veteran backup Tyrod Taylor.

"I think the most important part is if anything does happen to Justin, I don’t think there’s any drop-off as far as what we want to do when it comes to play calls," Glenn said. "Very similar when you talk about skill sets. That was enticing for us. And then the leadership ability. Things that we’ve heard about him… and you can just tell that the players really gravitate toward him. When he says something, everybody really listens, even the coaching staff. He’s been around this league a long time and he knows what it takes to win, and he’s a really good person. We’re all excited to have that guy here.

"Listen, Justin is who he is. But if something happens to him, we’ve got Tyrod and we’re ready to go."

The Jets also have 25-year-old Adrian Martinez and undrafted rookie Brady Cook on the roster.
