The Jets and Aaron Rodgers are moving toward parting ways after two seasons.

The franchise has a tremendous level of respect for the four-time NFL MVP and future first-ballot hall of fame quarterback, but SNY’s NFL Insider Connor Hughes reported on Super Bowl Sunday, that Rodgers will not be playing with the Jets next season.

“Aaron Rodgers will retire or play elsewhere in 2025,” Hughes noted.

The Jets could cut Rodgers, allowing him to hit the open market, or work out a trade with another team.

A report earlier on Sunday from NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport said that the team and QB were discussing the future, and a decision about the 41-year-old’s status for the 2025 NFL season could arrive as early as this week.

“If Rodgers stays, he’d almost surely have to take a pay cut from his scheduled 2025 base salary of $37.5 million,” Pelissero and Rapoport wrote. “… Rodgers likely also needs to commit to being with the Jets during the offseason program to learn a new system under first-time offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, something that would benefit all parties.”

In 17 games this past season, his first full year as Gang Green’s starter, Rodgers completed 368 of 584 passes for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. He added 107 rushing yards on 22 attempts.

The Jets have a new regime in place, and they were asked about Rodgers during their introductory news conference Jan. 27.

“I know he has his process in the offseason that he goes through, and we have ours,” said New York general manager Darren Mougey. “That day is going to come. We don’t have a timeline on it yet, but I’m certainly looking forward to it.”

“We’ve already texted Aaron,” added Jets coach Aaron Glenn. “Me and Mouge, we’re going to sit down and watch every game tape there is, and then we’ll look at the whole roster.”
