The preeminent rivalry in men’s tennis today continues with the US Open men’s singles final.
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will face off in the final of a major for the third time in 2025, with each having managed a win from the opening two battles: Alcaraz triumphed at the French Open, and Sinner got revenge at Wimbledon.
The top-two-ranked players in the world have become the overwhelmingly dominant forces on the ATP Tour. Sinner is the defending champion, having beaten Taylor Fritz in last year’s final, and Alcaraz won his first grand-slam title here in 2022. Between them, these men have won eight of the past nine major championships.
Alcaraz leads the head-to-head record 9-5. He won the latest meeting at the Cincinnati Open in August, Sinner retiring at 0-5 down in the first set. This latest battle is not expected to be over so quickly.
