The Philadelphia Eagles are trying to figure out their surprisingly inconsistent results on the offensive side of the ball.

According to Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice, quarterback Jalen Hurts, wideout A.J. Brown and running back Saquon Barkley had a lengthy meeting on Monday:

The frustrations of Brown have been well-documented at this point. Through five games the star receiver has 19 catches for 194 yards and a touchdown, well below expectations or past results.

The Eagles did become a more conservative team in their run to a title last season, however, leaning on a strong run game and defense. In the process, they asked Hurts to take less chances in the passing game and less downfield shots. In that regard, Brown having fewer targets isn’t necessarily surprising, though the Eagles have certainly gone too far in that direction to start the 2025 season.

The bigger surprise, however, is that a once-dominant run game has been mediocre to start the season. Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns last year; this year, those numbers sit at 267 yards and three touchdowns. Currently, Barkley is on pace to rush for 907 yards, quite the change from a season ago.

That may have more to do with the offensive line than Barkley or any play-calling changes, though it is important to note that the Eagles lost offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to the New Orleans Saints in the offseason, after he became the head coach, and promoted Kevin Patullo to the position.

Something is off with these Eagles, despite a 4-1 record perhaps suggesting otherwise. The team hasn’t put together a consistent half of offense all season, running incredibly hot and cold.

The Eagles got off to a shaky start last season as well, going 2-2 before turning it on and winning a Super Bowl. There is plenty of time to reverse course this season as well. It’s pretty clear to everyone that something has to change.
