Phoenix Suns head coach Jordan Ott revealed that Jalen Green will miss the team’s season-opener against the Sacramento Kings on Oct. 22 due to a hamstring injury, per ESPN.

Green suffered the injury in training camp before aggravating the issue during a trip to China for two preseason matchups with the Brooklyn Nets.

On Tuesday, Ott said that the 23-year-old would be reevaluated in 10 days (via ESPN).

Green’s absence will snap a streak of 186 consecutive games played, the third-longest in the NBA. His last missed contest occurred in Feb. 2023.

It’s worth noting that Green missed time as a rookie during the 2021-22 season due to a hamstring issue.

He’s preparing to enter his first season with the Suns after they acquired him as part of the blockbuster trade headlined by Kevin Durant heading to the Houston Rockets on July 6.

The Rockets selected Green with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft, as he showcased his athletic finishing ability and volume scoring before earning All-Rookie First Team honors.

While he continued to serve as a top scoring option for Houston throughout his tenure with the organization, he also dealt with inconsistent efficiency.

During Green’s 2024-25 campaign, he averaged 21.0 points and 4.6 rebounds to go along with 3.4 assists per game while shooting 42.3 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from behind the arc.

He struggled during the Rockets’ ensuing first-round playoff loss to the Golden State Warriors, recording 13.3 points and 2.9 assists per game on 37.2/29.5/66.7 shooting splits in the series.

He’ll now form an intriguing backcourt duo with Suns star Devin Booker when he’s able to return to the court, but his exact recovery timeline is uncertain.

Until Green comes back, Grayson Allen and Ryan Dunn could take on larger roles for Phoenix.
