The announced fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta “Tank” Davis reportedly needs a new venue.
Per TMZ, Rick Johnson of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission said Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions “withdrew its submission for event permits and rule waivers necessary to hold the boxing match at State Farm Arena” in Atlanta as previously announced.
The revelation comes as presale sign ups are still available on the venue’s site for the Nov. 14 bout. While event permits are customary for an event like this, the rule waivers stem from the massive weight difference between Paul and Davis. Paul outweighs Davis by nearly 65 pounds based on their most recent fights.
The GAEC is scheduled to meet this week to vote on MVP’s submissions, with three out of five commissioners needed to vote in favor for it to be approved. However, Thompson indicated he would not be voting in favor of the fight, as he previously described the matchup between Paul and Davis as “the dumbest s–t I’ve ever heard.”
MVP has yet to confirm the change in venue, but it teased that a major announcement is coming on Wednesday.
Paul and Davis are two of the most popular boxers in the world, so it can be expected that their fight would draw a large audience if it goes down this fall.
