Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) is now placed at #14 in the newest WBA cruiserweight world rankings for June 2025.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer defeated former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on points – 99-91, 98-92, 97-93 – last Saturday night, June 28th in the Honda Center in Anaheim.
The reigning WBA world cruiserweight champion is Mexican Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs), who also holds the WBO belt too.
On Saturday, Paul defeated Chavez Jr. after the 39-year-old Mexican only managed to land nine punches by the end of round five, losing widely on points.
On the same promotion, Gilberto Ramirez defeated Yuniel Dorticos to defend his unified WBA and WBO cruiserweight titles with unanimous scores of 117-110 and 115-112 x2.
After their respective victories, the pair faced off for the cameras. WBA President Gilberto Mendoza had promised Paul a top 15 world ranking if he was able to defeat the former WBC world middleweight champion.
“I want tougher fighters – I want to be world champion,” claimed 28-year-old Paul after his 12th win. His sole career defeat came in 2023 against British boxer Tommy Fury, who was the only active professional boxer Paul has fought against so far.
“Zurdo looked slow as sh-t. That’d be easy work too!”
Despite Paul’s audacious ambitions, the average age of his 13 opponents adds up to an advanced 39-years-old. Aside from Tommy Fury, other pro boxers he has fought include Mike Tyson, Ryan Bourland, Andre August, and added with Chavez Jr., that quartet equal to an average of 41.
Those aforementioned four pro boxers he beat were also largely inactive, with Chavez Jr. fighting just once in the last 3 years, 6 months; Ryan Bourland had only fought once in 5 years when he met Paul last year; and Andre August had fought just once in four years.
