J.J. Spaun’s Wife Melody Spaun Sparks Intrigue After Relative Unknown Wins US Open originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

J.J. Spaun didn’t exactly come out of nowhere to win the US Open at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, June 15, though he may as well have.

The 34-year-old has been a professional since 2012 and joined the PGA Tour in 2017. Entering the week at Oakmont, Spaun had just one career win in 235 starts, which came at the 2022 Valero Texas Open.

Spaun came on early this season, tying for third place in one tournament and tying for second place in a second tour event. He became known to most casual fans when he earned a spot in a playoff against Rory McIlroy at The Players Championship in March, which Spaun ultimately lost.

Just three months later, Spaun broke through to capture his first major championship as the only player to finish the tournament under par. He drained a long putt on the 72nd hole of the US Open championship to get to -1 for the week, besting Robert McIntyre of Scotland by two shots.

Spaun shared a teary celebration, first with his caddy, but then his wife and two children — all three of whom were in attendance for the final round, which fell on Father’s Day.

Spaun’s partner, Melody Means Spaun, was trending on social media following her husband’s win. Spaun, who is from Los Angeles, met his wife in California and married her in 2019. The family of four currently reside in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Spaun opened up about his wife and their journey together during an interview in 2023.

“I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m a pro golfer,’ because I thought I was cool,” Spaun said of meeting his wife. “But she’s like, ‘I don’t even know. What does that mean? Like, does that mean you’re like rich or something?’ I was like, ‘No.’ And she’s like, ‘I don’t really care.’ And I was like, ‘All right.’ And we went mini golfing or something and she’s like, ‘This is lame.'”

Spaun added that she eventually became an avid fan of the sport after attending her first golf tournament back in 2015 and has been a huge part of his support system as he has developed into a contender, and now a major champion, on the PGA Tour.
