Tottenham boss Roberto de Zerbi has apologised for Tuesday’s limp Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Liverpool, but says it is “unfair” that his team are in “this unlucky moment”.
Spurs’ hopes of a morale-boosting cup win to distract from their winless and goalless opening four Premier League games were short-lived, and even Conor Gallagher’s header – their first goal against top-flight opposition this season – came while already trailing 2-0 and did not change the outcome.
