The Buffalo Sabres will be a popular topic in trade rumor circles from now until the March 7th NHL trade deadline, and names such as Dylan Cozens, Jordan Greenway, and Jason Zucker have already been mentioned prominently as potential targets of contending clubs, but another Sabres top forward has now entered the discussion.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman in his most recent 32 Thoughts column mentioned Sabres forward Alex Tuch as a potential target of the Tampa Bay Lightning if the 28-year-old winger is available. The Syracuse, NY native was acquired by Buffalo in the Jack Eichel deal in November 2021 with Vegas and has been a consistent performer the last three-plus seasons.
Tuch is signed through next season, at a very affordable $4.75 million cap hit, which would increase the possible return for him, but as with many of the players that have been involved in rumors, the Sabres would be looking for players in return, and not prospects and future draft picks.
Friedman stressed that he does not know whether Tuch is available, and if he were, more than just the Lightning would be interested in acquiring him. Adams recently indicated that he is focusing on retaining Zucker and Greenway—who are on expiring contracts—but that an extension would have to make sense for both the player and the club. The same would pertain to Tuch, who will be 30 when he becomes an unrestricted free agent in July 2026.
