The Sporting News’ Val Dewar recently sat down with ONE Championship’s former undisputed flyweight champion Adriano ‘Mikinho’ Moraes to talk about his upcoming fight, about his former opponent Demetrious Johnson’s retirement, what he wants in the rest of his career, what he is like outside the cage, and more.
Adriano once was a many time defending champion at flyweight and even beat the GOAT, ‘Mighty Mouse,’ before losing his belt in the second fight and coming up short in a close bout to end the trilogy.
However, after Johnson’s retirement, the flyweight division has no champ and is wide open for the taking. Moraes expects a title shot by beating Danny Kingad next.
That was in 2017, in Adriano’s second reign as flyweight champion. Moraes would lose the belt by split decision for a second time in his next fight, but then won it back and defended it twice more, including against Mighty Mouse.
Now that Johnson won their trilogy and then retired, Adriano wishes him the best but also wants to be awarded the same honor of being in the Hall of Fame when he retires. After all, he is a three-time defnding champ and GOAT-slayer.
Adriano also discussed his favorite things to do outside the cage. Other than the obvious, like spending time with the daughter who has changed his world, he is an avid skateboarder.
