Gianluca Di Marzio says that Inter Milan will focus on signing young players who can still play regularly this summer transfer window.

The Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert outlined the Nerazzurri’s strategy on air, via FCInterNews.

There is no getting around the fact that Inter Milan’s squad has an extremely high average age.

The Nerazzurri have been very reliant on veteran players in recent seasons.

That has paid off on the pitch for Inter. However, there is a strong sense that the team must refresh if they are to be at the requisite physical level.

As Di Marzio notes, Inter already want to sell striker Mehdi Taremi. The Iranian international has not been a successful example of the strategy of signing experienced players on free transfers.

But on the other hand, Kristjan Asllani is still not a player who has established himself at the San Siro.

As Di Marzio notes, Inter could very well sell the Albanian this summer.

According to Di Marzio, Inter want to invest in players who are somewhere between the two extreme.

Lowering the average squad age is certainly a key priority for the Nerazzurri.

Therefore, Inter will be looking to sign players in their early twenties.

However, Di Marzio anticipates, Inter will not target players who are just “prospects.”

For example, Inter signed young defender Tomas Palacios last summer. And it is unclear when if ever the Argentine will break into the Nerazzurri first team.

Therefore, Di Marzio reports, Petar Sucic is the model for Inter.

The Croat is a full international and has Champions League experience. Therefore, Inter signed Sucic because they believe that he can genuinely become a regular appearance-maker despite his young age.
