After spending nearly 25 years in the NBA, including nine seasons as the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks, Mike Woodson was hired as the Indiana Hoosiers basketball coach prior to the 2021-22 season. However, the 2024-25 season will be Woodson’s last in Bloomington. He’ll step down as the Indiana basketball coach at the end of the season and athletic director Scott Dolson will try to make a big hire.

One name the staff has identified as a potential target on the Indiana basketball coaching hot board is UCLA coach Mick Cronin. The 53-year-old is already in his 22nd season as a Division I head coach, leading Murray State for three seasons and then Cincinnati for 13 years before taking the UCLA job in 2019.

Cronin led the Bruins to a Final Four and two Sweet 16 appearances in a three-year span at UCLA but is coming off a sub-.500 season. UCLA appears to be back on track to make the tourney in 2025, with Jerry Palm projecting the Bruins to be a No. 6 seed in his latest CBS Sports Bracketology update. However, Cronin could be looking for a change of scenery after a troublesome year last season and that would be the sort of high-profile move that would appease the big boosters at IU. See more candidates at Peegs.com.
