Roberto De Zerbi will not have left an indelible mark on his time at Olympique de Marseille. Or at least, perhaps not in the way he would have hoped. This goes for his supporters, as well as his players.

Just a few hours before reuniting with his former team-mates for the opening match of the Europa League group stage, Beşiktaş JK defender Amir Murillo (30), who joined from OM last February, used his appearance at a press conference to settle scores with the Italian manager.

“Everyone saw that I’d had a problem with the manager,” recalled the Panamanian left-back. “It had nothing to do with the club, nor with the team. I think it was simply something personal on the manager’s part and that, in a way, I felt it was a lack of respect. They practically forced me to leave the club, and that’s how I ended up at Beşiktaş.”

Having left Marseille barely a week later, De Zerbi went on to take up the managerial post at Tottenham Hotspur, a role he still holds today, with a record of four wins, four draws and five defeats since his arrival.
