San Jose Sharks forward Barclay Goodrow finally opened up about his feelings regarding how his New York Rangers career ended.

The Rangers waived Goodrow during the 2024 offseason, and reports surfaced that Goodrow had the Sharks on his no-trade list. The forward told reporters on Wednesday that he wasn’t happy with how that situation was handled but that he’s moved on.

“I didn’t like how things were handled. That’s just how it went down. I didn’t like how it happened, but we’re all past that. It was a while ago. You have to move on,” Goodrow said. “It comes with the territory of this job. There’s nothing you can do but put your head down and keep working.”

Goodrow is moving up to the Sharks’ top line, along with 2024 No. 1 pick Macklin Celebrini and Tyler Toffoli.

Goodrow said he was excited to play at Madison Square Garden again and had this game circled on the calendar for a while.

“It’s exciting, I think, especially it being MSG. That’s always a trip that’s circled on the calendar,” Goodrow said. “[This game has a] little more meaning to it this time around, so I’ve been looking forward to it and excited to get back.”

Goodrow was an alternate captain for the Rangers from 2021 to 2024.

“I still have a lot of close friends on that team. I have a lot of good memories. [We had] a couple of long playoff runs. I loved my time there,” Goodrow said. “It was kind of just unexpected, personally, for how it ended. But we’re past that, and I am a Shark and happy to be here.”

Goodrow explained that returning to San Jose helped him feel more comfortable because he was familiar with the area, but moving his family across the country was still stressful. He also explained how much the team has changed from his first time in San Jose.

“It’s completely different. Ferraro, Vlasic, [and] Couture are the only guys still around. Staff wise, [it is] completely different,” Goodrow said. “It’s been fun getting to know a bunch of new guys and still having the familiarity of the rink, city, schedule, [and] all of that. It’s been good.”

When asked how he thinks the fans will react when he returns, Goodrow said he honestly doesn’t know.

The Sharks will visit the Rangers tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET.
