SEATTLE – Michelle Duan, a former assistant at Seattle University and collegiate golfer herself, has joined the Washington women’s golf coaching staff, head coach Anna Temple announced Monday.

“Michelle will be a wonderful addition to our program,” Temple said. “She has had a unique start to her coaching career, working with both the women’s and men’s teams at Seattle University, and will bring great insight with her to Montlake. She is passionate about the game of golf, building great relationships with our student-athletes, and through her hard work and dedication, she will help us get better each and every day.”

Duan spent the last two years with SU’s men’s and women’s golf teams, which competed in the Western Athletic Conference. She helped the Redhawks earn NCAA Regionals spots, according to UW’s statement. She also helped SU earn five All-WAC awards, two WAC Golfer of the Year awards, and a WAC Freshman of the Year award during her tenure.

In her first season with the Redhawks, Duan helped Seattle U women’s golf take home its first-ever WAC title in 2023-24, UW’s statement said. SU also competed in the NCAA Regionals for the first time ever that year.

In 2024-25, the men’s squad finished at the top of the WAC Championships, winning its second WAC title in program history. Kevin Li became the first student-athlete to win back-to-back WAC individual championships since 2004, helping his team earn a spot in the Bremerton Regional.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Husky golf family,” Duan said. “I am so grateful to Coach Anna for this opportunity to bring my coaching skills to the next level and to support our elite team of student-athletes. I can’t wait to watch them thrive.”

Last season, the Redhawk women’s team earned a first-place finish at the Portland State Invitational and a second-place finish at the Harbottle Invitational in Tacoma.

In the Harbottle Invite, Seattle U set a new program record in score under par on 54 holes for an individual (-13) and team (-9).

Duan helped SU senior Rivekka Jumagulova to back-to-back tournament wins in both of those top two team finishes. Jumagulova was named the WAC Women’s Golf Player of the Year in 2023-24 and is a two-time All-WAC First Team selection.

The Redhawk women earned a fourth-place spot out of nine league teams in last season’s WAC Championships. The year was capped with an eighth-place finish at the 2025 National Golf Invitational in Maricopa, Ariz.

Duan spent two seasons playing golf for the University of Nevada in Reno, Nev., where she set the school record low round with a 66.

After two years in her home state of Nevada, Duan transferred to CSUN, where she competed in 18 tournaments and earned Top 20 finishes on four occasions.

During her senior season, Duan led CSUN to a runner-up finish in the Big West Conference Championships.
