The 39th season of the Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association tees off this summer, serving kids between the ages of 9 and 18 in seven central Ohio counties.

The tournament schedule starts June 3 at Lincoln Hills in Upper Sandusky and is followed by events at Marion Country Club on June 10, Marysville Golf Course on June 18, Veterans Memorial Park in Kenton on June 26, Blues Creek in Marysville on June 30, Kings Mill in Waldo on July 10 and Valley View in Galion on July 14. The Chad A. Wheeler Best of the Best playoff event for tourney winners and runners-up will be July 22 at Lincoln Hills.

The tournaments are open to juniors who live in Marion, Crawford, Delaware, Hardin, Morrow, Union and Wyandot counties. There are four divisions: 12-and-under, 13-to-15 boys, 16-to-18 boys and 13-to-18 girls. Age as of Sept. 1 determines divisions.

Players in the 13-and-older divisions compete for points that bring eligibility to earn scholarships by playing in five or more events.

The season banquet will be July 24 at Kings Mill.

HOJGA was founded in 1987 and is a non-profit formed to teach golf to juniors through summer tournament play and to offer scholarships for area youth. Golf camp set for June 5

The annual golf camp will be held June 5 from 8 a.m. to noon at Determined Brilliance Driving Range in Marion. There will be instruction and lunch, plus campers will get a logo bag towel and golf booklet. The fee is $17 plus a $5 membership fee. Clubs for Kids are available for juniors that need golf clubs.

New scholarships to be awarded

American Legion Post 162 is offering two new scholarships for the 2025 HOJGA season. The Allegiance Scholarships of $500 each will be given to a boy and girl that show attributes of compliance, loyalty, respect and duty to serve. They will be chosen by tournament officials from the 16-to-18 age groups that play five or more events.

There are now 18 scholarships available.

The American Legion scholarships join the David J. Wensinger Player of the Year $2,500, Ross Carley Memorial Player of the Year first runner-up $1,700, Wensinger Family second runner-up $500, HOJGA third runner-up $500, Jerry Wensinger Double Under Par Incentive $500, HOJGA Three-Year Accumlative Points $750, HOJGA Most Improved Golfer $500, Knights of Columbus Sportsmanship $500, HOJGA Girls Sportsmanship $500, Marion County Youth Foundation MERIT $1,000, Charles W. Emans Memorial Patriot $500, Roger Lee Hensel Legacy $500, Amy Wensinger Roberts Girls 13-to-18 Player of the Year $1,000, HOJGA Girls 13-to-18 Player of the Year Runner-up $750, Steve Mills Memorial 13-to-15 Boys Player of the Year $1,000 and the HOJGA 13-to-15 Player of the Year Runner-up $750.
