Back-to-back Australian Open winner Aryna Sabalenka has just missed out on feat only a few others have completed.

The world No. 1 dropped just one set on her way to winning both the 2023 and 2024 titles at Melbourne Park.

However, she was defeated in three sets by Madison Keys in the 2025 Australian Open final – 6-3 2-6 7-5.

Who has won three consecutive Australian Open titles?

Five women and one man have won a hat-trick of Australian Open titles consecutively.

In the Open Era, Margaret Court (1969–1971), Evonne Goolagong (1974–1976), Steffi Graf (1988–1990), Monica Seles (1991–1993) and Martina Hingis (1997–1999) are the only women to have won the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup three times in a row.

In the men’s singles across the Open Era, Novak Djokovic (2011-13, 2019-21) is the only player to win the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup three times in a row. He has done so twice during his 10 titles at Melbourne Park.

Aryna Sabalenka’s mission to win Australian Open hat-trick

Sabalenka won her first major title at Australian Open 2023 with a victory against Elena Rybakina in the final.

While she fell short in the final at US Open 2023 to Coco Gauff, she won both hardcourt majors in 2024.

Sabalenka dominated Qinwen Zheng to claim her second consecutive Australian Open title, before beating Jessica Pegula to win at Flushing Meadows.

It means Sabalenka has played in the last four hardcourt major finals, winning three of them.

“I know that I have the possibility of joining legends by winning three times in a row … I don’t want to overthink about that, I just want to do my job,” Sabalenka said pre-tournament.
