The season finale of “Hard Knocks” provided a perfect conclusion to the season in that it was all but conclusory. Throughout the episode, the impending “cut-down day” of the NFL season is approaching. Typically, this can be a very finite moment for players – either you made the roster or you didn’t. However, as the Seattle Seahawks like to put it, cut-down day is “not doom and gloom. It’s stay strong and keep faith.”
Staying strong and keeping the faith on the individual level mirrors what the team needs to do to reach the goal for 2026, to raise the Lombardi Trophy once again. Perhaps that mindset is exactly why “Hard Knocks” chose to end the final scene with Sam Darnold walking off the field breathing loudly and staying the course. Seattle is a place where individuals can flourish, and as a result, the team as a whole is able to grow.

With that being said, let’s take a look at some of the best moments from the “Hard Knocks” season finale.

Mike Macdonald starts the episode in his coaches meeting, reminding the staff that cut-down day is looming and to be cognizant that this is a tough time of the season for many players. Macdonald emphases that the message from coaches needs to be that everyone is on a different timetable as to their development.

The Seahawks are shown how to “baptize that chicken” with the help of chef and food influencer Bernard Hardison. Derick Hall is shown enjoying the baptized chicken, while Uso Seumalo gives the feast a 9.7/10 rating.

John Schneider takes us to Dino’s Pub, where it is easier to have a difficult conversation over a beer. Schneider is joined by Head Strength and Conditioning coach, Ivan Lewis, and V.P. of Player Affairs, Maurice Kelly. Schneider describes the tough part about this time of the year, where on one hand you are preparing for the Week 1 opponent, New England Patriots, while on the other hand you have to figure out the best way to put together the best 70-man roster to help handle the “war of attrition” that the NFL is.

Nick Emmanwori sees the light at the end of the tunnel in regards to his ankle injury. We see Emmanwori discussing his recovery with Coach Macdonald. Macdonald reminds Emmanwori not to worry about guys thinking he isn’t trying his hardest to get back. The “guys know who’s trying and who’s not.”

Coach Macdonald hypes the team up ahead of the final preseason matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs by showing the team highlights from Uso Seumalo, Montorie Foster Jr., Jalen Milroe. He reminds Milroe again to “take out the Ferrari.”

Jalen Milroe meets with quarterback coach, Jake Peetz. Peetz talks about how this game against the Chiefs will be a perfect chance for Milroe to prove himself as he will play the entire game and even get reps against the Chiefs A-team. Peetz reminds Milroe to keep it as simple as possible.

It isn’t an episode of “Hard Knocks” without Derick Hall talking about his shorts. Hall pokes fun at Trevon Diggs, saying that Diggs’ legs are too little to wear short shorts and that he needs to put some shorts on that go down to his knees.

There is a fun meeting between Diggs and his former college coach, turned defensive backs coach, Karl Scott. Scott shows Diggs some old tape of him at Alabama and tells Diggs not to forget who you are – “you always had legs, hope you still got ’em.”

They show the NFL owners meeting in Atlanta, where Vinod Khosla is officially voted in as the new owner of the Seattle Seahawks by a vote of 32-0. John Schneider is seen laughing when Khosla says that the plan is “simple”, to win another Super Bowl.

Leonard Williams gets some “Love” when talking about his new three-year, $90 million extension. Williams talks with Julian Love about how they will have played 10 years together by the time his new contract is up – and with two separate teams (referring to Williams and Love’s time with the New York Giants). Love then jokes around saying he needs to sign another contract with Seattle and will retire when Williams does. This heart-felt conversation then goes into discussing what type of boat or truck they need to buy together. Perhaps it can be an ice cream truck – or a mango truck – or an elote truck – maybe a shaved ice truck?

We are taken along the Jarran Reed “slime-cam” as the Seahawks make their way to Kansas City. Reed is seen calling Sam Darnold “ginger cuz” and telling John Schneider that his shirt is “tighter than a mother f—.”

Reed goes from the slime-cam to giving the team a pre-game speech ahead of the final preseason game against the Chiefs. “They brought you here for a reason. Be the reason they brought you here.”

Jalen Milroe has a heart-to-heart conversation with his parents ahead of his first full-game action of the season.

In the game against the Chiefs, Trevon Diggs uses his wide receiver skills to help him show up with a big interception. Diggs quickly gets the intercepted ball over to his mom in the stands.

The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” song is played over a montage of big plays by the Seahawks, including a big catch by Montorie Foster Jr. However, the reality of the game is shown as well as Mike Macdonald is heard saying “this is the sloppiest game at any level.”

Jalen Milroe is seen showing a ton of emotion in response to the offense moving the ball slowly. Coach, Jake Peetz responds to Milroe to “keep imposing confidence in these guys – if they didn’t see you pissed off, they would think something is wrong.” Milroe quickly has a huge throw to Emanuel Henderson Jr. followed by a touchdown throw to Nick Vannett.

After the Chiefs game, the attention turns back to the NFL cut-down day. Mike Macdonald reemphasizes to the team in his post-game speech – “It is a 70-man roster … we respect the hell out of you … we are the 2026 Seahawks!”

Back at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, Cooper Kupp is seen talking to some of the players on the roster bubble. Kupp mentions that last year (his first year in Seattle) was the first time that he saw the coaching staff have a true trust in the full 70-man roster to get the job done. Kupp mentions that cut-down day is going to be different than what you are expecting.

The infamous cut-down day finally comes. However, it is a lot more joyous than in past seasons of “Hard Knocks.” Live Schrieber (the “Hard Knocks” narrator) puts it in a great way. “No one is being cut loose today. Some are being asked to have patience – they are simply on a longer journey to the team.”

A multitude of players (Aidan Hubbard, Marvin Jones Jr., Justin Jones, Trevon Diggs) are seen coming in and being told the plan of how to get them back tomorrow on to the practice squad. However, it is Ricky White III that shows some of the raw emotion that stood out. White shows how much he wants to be in Seattle, how much he loves it.

The other star of “Hard Knocks”, Uso Seumalo, does not get as good of news as Foster does. However, unlike other seasons, it is a joyous ending nonetheless. Seumalo is seen having positive conversations with John Schneider, Mike Macdonald, Maurice Kelly, and defensive line coach Justin Hinds, who tells Uso that he has “what it takes to be a very good defensive tackle in this league” and that he will see Uso on the ready squad.

Terrion Arnold’s name makes another appearance in “Hard Knocks”. John Schneider is heard saying that Arnold’s “character didn’t fit with the allegations” and that adding him to the team is a “long-term play.”

Mike Macdonald addresses the 53-man roster and tells them to take a moment to reflect on what it means to be in this room right now – it should be humbling. However, staying true to the mindset, Macdonald reminds the team that the 2026 Seahawks are a full 70-man team.

The episode and indeed the entire season concludes with a story of who Mike Macdonald is – a coach who lifts Lombardi trophies, and a story of what Seattle is – a place where individuals can flourish, and as a result, the team as a whole is able to grow. Add this over the sound of “Dusty” by Soundgarden, this season comes to an end with a true nod to not only the Seahawks, but the city of Seattle as a whole.
