BENSON — The Benson boys golf team and Minnewaska’s girls were victorious Wednesday.
The host Braves tied Morris/Chokio-Alberta to share the win in the West Central Conference meet at Benson Golf Club with 160 strokes apiece. Minnewaska was third with a 162 and West Central Area was fourth at 163. Montevideo was seventh at 176 and BOLD was eighth at 194.
The teams played another round later in the day in Glenwood.

A pair of Benson and Minnewaska golfers finished in the top five, respectively. For the Braves, seventh-grader Connor Larson and freshman Eli Jones tied for third with matching 38s. For the Lakers, senior Zach Gugisberg shared medalist honors with Morris/CA’s Charlie Hanson at 37 and freshman Thatcher Sherlin finished in a three-way with the Tigers’ Jaxon Hilbrands and West Central Area’s Marshall Dewey as the trio all shot 39s.
One other area boys golfer placed in the top 10. That would be Benson junior Franklin Knutson, who recorded a 40 to share eighth place with West Central Area’s Cooper Hanson.

Minnewaska’s girls totaled a conference-meet low 165, which was ahead of Melrose’s 178 and West Central Area’s 179. BOLD was fourth at 201 and Montevideo was sixth at 228.
Five of the Lakers’ six golfers finished in the top 10. Freshman Kyra Nelson led the way with a 39 to take second. Then, senior Arivia DeBoer was third at 40 and sophomore Annika DeBoer tied West Central Area’s Miley Dewey for fourth with a 41.

Also near the top of the leaderboard for the Lakers were freshman Michaela Johnson, who placed sixth at 42, junior Ava Kollman, who was ninth with a 45 and freshman Anna Kollman, who tied West Central Area’s Hayden Schei and Melrose’s Izzie Van Beck for 10th place at 46.

The only other area girls golfer to break into the top 10 was BOLD’s Peyton Sander. The senior carded a 43 to take seventh place.
Melrose’s Avery Braegelmann earned medalist honors with a one-under-par 35.

The Minnewaska girls got the win on their home course in a West Central Conference meet at the Minnewaska Golf Club in Glenwood.
The Laker girls shot a total of 169, besting Melrose’s 191. Minnewaska took the top three spots, with Arivia DeBoer earning medalist honors with a 39. Ana Kollman was second with 40 and Annika DeBoer was third with 42. Also making the top five was BOLD’s Layla Pfarr with a fifth-place round of 45.
West Central Area and Morris/Chokio-Alberta tied for the boys title with 158s. Minnewaska was third with 165.
Morris/CA’s Charlie Hanson claimed medalist honors with a 33. The top area golfer was Minnewaska’s Thatcher Sherlin. He tied for third with a 38.

With top-four finishes from Rylie Harrier and Layna Carlson, the New London-Spicer girls won the Ken Helling Invitational at the Kimball Golf Club.
The Wildcats’ 381 was enough to beat Paynesville’s 394 and Litchfield’s 406.
Harrier finished second with an 86 and Carlson was fourth with a 90.
Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City’s Brooke Brekke earned medalist honors with a 75. Finishing third was Paynesville’s Peyton Roeske with an 87.
