  • Bronny James recently revealed his best score in an 18-hole round and golf fans are suspicious of its validity.

Bronny James, a second-year guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, has been taking up a new sport this offseason: golf.

The former USC Trojans shooting guard, drafted in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, has been playing a lot of golf this summer with his dad. The 6-foot-3 guard and his father have been spotted out on prestigious courses around Southern California. Bronny James, who averaged 2.3 points per game during his rookie season with the Lakers, will soon have to put the clubs away for his basketball shoes.

However, Bronny James recently appeared in a video with YouTube golf star Grant Horvath. During the video, Bronny James revealed his best score in an 18-hole round.

Bronny James, 20, appeared in a "Can I Break 60 with Bronny James?" video with popular YouTube golf star Grant Horvath. The popular YouTube golfer has a big following on social media, with close to 1.5 million subscribers.

During the video, Bronny James was asked how long he's been playing golf for. His answer surprised Horvath.

"Four months," Bronny James said.

Horvath looked surprised in the YouTube video, as Bronny James' swing and tempo do not look very amateurish. Horvath then asked Bronny James to reveal his best 18-hole score in these four months.

"81," Bronny James responded.

Horvath looked surprised by that, too. While 81 is nothing crazy – many good amateur golfers can reach that score – it's highly impressive for someone who has only been playing golf for four months. That's the kind of score most amateur golfers will reach after years of playing.

Golf fans are suspicious of Bronny's best score

Golf fans in the comment section of Grant Horvath's video have sparked some questions about Bronny James' game. Many think he's not being truthful about either playing for only four months, or his best score being 81. Most golf fans think that it's unlikely that someone could play for just four months and reach that score.

"even adjusting for the fact that he’s an elite athlete, a legit 81 within four months is extremely suspect. not impossible but…………." one comment that received close to 100 likes read.

"We know that’s 🧢 his dad is LeBron after all," another fan wrote on Instagram.

One fan added: "LeLiar??? Lmao, naw im playing, it’s possible! 🔥."

Bronny James is not a typical amateur golfer, though

Bronny James, even as a bench player in the NBA, is one of the best athletes in the world. He's in the top 1 percent of the top 1 percent when it comes to athletes. He is not like you or me out on the golf course, doing our best to make a par.

Video of Bronny's swing shows that he has a lot of body control and a lot of athleticism, which make sense considering his NBA talent.

It's possible, though perhaps unlikely, that someone with his talents could shoot around 80 after playing golf for only four months, like it or not.
