The relationship between PGA star Rory McIlroy and CBS Golf reporter Amanda Balionis was caused quite a few stories over the past couple of years. The two have always seemed to be close and friendly, working together on tour for so many weeks out of the year, but in the midst of McIlroy’s divorce a year ago, rumors sparked of a romantic relationship between the two.
McIlroy has sense smoothed things out with his wife and had his divorce called off, but there is still McIlroy-Balionis drama.
Most recently it comes after the PGA Championship, when McIlroy blew off the media after all four rounds of the tournament, in which he did not play well, shooting a +3 for the tournament, good for 47th place.
McIlroy faced quite a bit of backlash on social media for his decision to skip the post-round interviews every day, especially when he said a year ago that he believes PGA Tour stars need to make themselves more available to the public and do more media events before and after their rounds.
Most notably, though, Balionis took to social media and appeared to fire a veiled shot at McIlroy, thanking guys like Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm for joining her for post-round interviews after their rounds on Sunday, despite losing in the end.

“Appreciate these two for taking the time to talk after a gutting loss,” Balionis wrote. “Simply a reminder that no one is obligated to talk, it’s a choice. And to bring us in after coming so close to a career accomplishment is awesome for the viewer.”
Whether or not Balionis was talking indirectly to McIlroy is unknown, but it’s not hard to see the potential through-line of it all.
