The Vegas Golden Knights have an excellent opportunity to build on their Pacific Division lead with several games against weaker opponents.
Seven of the Golden Knights’ next eight games are against teams that have losing records. The one team they play who has a winning record are the Calgary Flames.
The Golden Knights return from their mini holiday break with a battle against the San Jose Sharks on the road. Following Friday’s game, the Golden Knights will play four consecutive home games against the Flames, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers and Buffalo Sabres.
The Golden Knights will head back on the road for another matchup against the Sharks before returning to T-Mobile Arena to host the New York Islanders and the New York Rangers. Out of the eight teams the Golden Knights play, six are inside the bottom 10 of the standings, with the Flyers sitting just one spot out of the bottom 10.
Besides playing great hockey, the Golden Knights’ mindset has been focused, clear and together. Each and every play heads into a game, knowing they are the better team and with confidence. They have shown the ability to outscore their opponents, shut them down and make comebacks when needed.
The Golden Knights have been able to head into games knowing that their defence core will outshine their opponents, the best players, Jack Eichel and Mark Stone, will outperform their opponent’s best players and that their goaltending will keep them in games when called upon.
The Golden Knights are getting contributions from up and down the lineup and have put themselves in an excellent spot to go on a long playoff run before the mid-way point of the season. There is still lots of hockey to be played, but what the Golden Knights have shown through their first 34 games is a great sign.
