The Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines features a touching tribute to Tiger Woods’ late Mother, Kultida Woods, with a white flag on the 7th hole. Kultida passed away earlier this month at the age of 80.

Kutilda was born in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, and worked as a civilian secretary, performing clerical duties for the U.S. Army base during the Vietnam War. She met Earl Woods in 1966, married him in 1969, and subsequently moved to the United States. Kutilda and Earl had one child, Tiger (Eldrick) Woods.

Woods has consistently acknowledged his mother’s vital role in his success. He has stated that her influence was critical in instilling a strong work ethic and motivating him to pursue his dreams and always called her his biggest fan.

“Nothing will ever be handed to you; everything must be earned. If you don’t put in the work and effort, you won’t achieve the results you want. More importantly, you won’t deserve them. You need to earn it,” Woods reflects, sharing advice he received from his mother.

Here is how the Genesis Invitational is honoring Kutilda Woods.

Genesis Invitational honors Woods’ late mother

The white flag at the 7th hole during the tournament honors Kultida’s Buddhist faith, which Tiger Woods has said his mother instilled in him from a young age. In Buddhism, the number 7 symbolizes a complete cycle or a state of perfection, often associated with the ‘Seven Factors of Enlightenment.’ Additionally, the color white represents purity, enlightenment, and the absence of negativity.
