Manchester City and Fulham are closing in on the completion of a deal for one of the Etihad Stadium’s Academy talents to head to the capital, it has been reported.
The Premier League champions, having been significantly active in the way of first-team arrivals for the most-part of this month, are seemingly now closing a number of deals to secure the futures of some of their more promising names within the club.
Having spent heavily on three new arrivals in the opening three weeks with Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Omar Marmoush signing for around £130 million in total, there is now a focus on selling and approving loan deals.
That stance is coinciding with one final push for a new central midfielder to bring into Pep Guardiola’s ranks for the remainder of the season and beyond, having endured widespread problems in the role as a result of Rodri’s long-term injury.
But while that search is ongoing, the sale of Academy names is currently taking centre stage, and it appears as though a deal is close to being finalised with one of Manchester City’s Premier League rivals.
That is according to the information of transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, who reveals that Fulham are now closing in on Manchester City’s 17-year-old academy midfielder, Seth Chingwaro on a long-term deal with a £750,000 fee agreed between the two clubs.
The teenager will be returning to his home city of London via a move to Fulham, having progressed through Manchester City’s Academy system since joining the club aged 11 and starring with the Under-18s for the ongoing season.
Manchester City view Chingwaro as an athletic midfielder, capable of playing a holding position ‘in the engine room’, while also having the capability to operate in a box-to-box role and offering ability at both ends of the pitch.
For now, it remains to be seen just how many more Academy stars could follow the teenager out of the exit door from the Etihad Stadium, with reports concerning Daniel Batty and Tottenham, as well as Jacob Wright and Swansea City also circulating.
