Next weekend brings Easter, and the NASCAR Cup Series teams get their lone off week of the season. They’ll gladly take it because it’s going to be a long way to November.

But they’d better not be looking ahead, because this weekend they pay a price for that idle time to come: 500 laps at the high-banked half-miler at Bristol Motor Speedway, which Dick Trickle once compared to piloting a jet fighter inside a high school gymnasium.

This will bring an end to a three-week hunk of the schedule you might call the Museum Swing, since it included Martinsville and Darlington before this week’s Bristol visit. By the way, you could suggest the history tour continues after the off week, since they crank back to life at Talladega in two weeks.

Denny Hamlin tries to win his third straight race to match the three-peat Christopher Bell produced earlier in the season. If you think it’s too much to ask, consider this: Denny has won two of the last three races at the fast-and-tough bull ring.
