The rumor mill is continuing to swirl as we reach the slowest part of the offseason. Former San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane is currently a name popping up consistently, as he’s now been linked to a move to Russia for the second time in his career.
According to Russian news outlet Sport-Express, Ak Bars Kazan is “considering signing” Kane. Beyond that, they didn’t add many additional details.

A controversial figure throughout his career, Kane hit the free agent market this summer after a single season with the Vancouver Canucks. Given his agent Daniel Milstein’s close ties to Russia’s hockey system and players, it’s certainly not overly surprising that there would be at least discussions with the Kontinental Hockey League regarding his services.
Kane, 35, spent parts of four seasons with the Sharks during the late 2010s and early 2020s. He spent five games with the Sharks’ American Hockey League affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda during the 2021-22 season before the Sharks voided his contract due to a breach of contract pertaining to the COVID-19 protocols at the time.
During the 2012 NHL lockout, Kane played 12 games in the KHL with Belarussian club Dynamo Minsk. He scored just a single goal and two points in 12 games.
