Former PGA Tour Winner Makes Bold Scottie Scheffler Statement on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Brandel Chamblee, now one of golf’s most outspoken analysts, stirred conversation on Wednesday when he offered a concise response to a follower’s query about the 125th U.S. Open next week at Oakmont Country Club.

When asked what he thinks the “winning score will be at Oakmont,” Chamblee confidently fired back with, “Whatever Scottie Scheffler shoots.”

Chamblee’s remark lands a full week ahead of the championship, which begins June 12 and runs through June 15 in Pennsylvania.

His post also comes just one day before of the RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, in which Scheffler, the World No. 1, has decided to opt out.

A former PGA Tour player turned lead studio analyst for the Golf Channel, Chamblee earned his lone PGA Tour victory at the 1998 Greater Vancouver Open.

He went on to be a top-100 money earner seven years running (1995-2001) and later transitioned into broadcasting, where his forthright commentary has made him a polarizing figure.

On the other side of Chamblee’s declaration is Scheffler, the man he believes will define the winning score.

Scheffler has steadily ascended to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking with an astounding resume that includes two Masters titles (2022 and 2024) and, most recently, the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.

Despite his success elsewhere, Scheffler has yet to capture U.S. Open glory, with his best finish coming in 2022, where he tied for second.

Now, led by flawless recent form and armed with confidence from his PGA Championship win, he arrives at Oakmont as the man to beat.
