Former Mets GM Billy Eppler is joining the Brewers’ front office.

League sources have told SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino that Eppler will serve as a special advisor in scouting and baseball operations with Milwaukee.

The 49-year-old was the Mets’ GM for three seasons. The initial expectation was that he’d remain with the organization after they brought in David Stearns as the new President of Baseball Operations, but he decided to resign after MLB opened an investigation into his improper use of the injured list.

Shortly after, Eppler was suspended and placed on MLB’s ineligible list for the entire 2024 season.

Per MLB’s release, Eppler’s violations included “the deliberate use of fabrication of injuries, and the associated submission of documentation for the purposes of securing multiple improper Injured List placements during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.”

During his time with the team Eppler helped bring in big name free agents such as Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Starling Marte, Kodai Senga and Jose Quintana. He played a big role in them re-signing the likes of Edwin Diaz and Brandon Nimmo and extended Jeff McNeil.

When things went south for the Mets during the 2023 season, Eppler flipped Verlander, Scherzer and other veterans to revamp the team’s farm system — bringing in highly-touted prospects like Luisangel Acuna, Drew Gilbert, and Ryan Clifford, among others.

New York made the playoffs once with him at the helm.
