Fabio Capello has warned Inter not to underestimate Bodo/Glimt, insisting the Norwegian side often raise their level against elite opponents.

The message comes after the Champions League play-off draw paired the Nerazzurri with the Scandinavian club.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, the former Milan and England coach highlighted Bodo’s recent results.

“Their win against Atletico Madrid can happen, but the more significant one was the previous match against Manchester City. Bodo clearly raise their level when they face stronger teams.”

Capello also underlined the challenge of playing on artificial turf.

“Playing on synthetic grass isn’t easy. The ball bounces differently and the balance changes. I give a lot of importance to that aspect. The temperatures should improve for the play-offs, so the cold can’t be an excuse.”

For the veteran coach, mentality will be decisive.

“The big mistake would be thinking ‘we were lucky with this draw’ and underestimating the opponent. That’s the worst thing that can happen to Inter.”

He believes the return leg in Milan should still favour the Nerazzurri.

“Synthetic pitches are tricky, but the level of the teams is so different that if the match is approached with seriousness and attention, everything else becomes secondary. They must not copy City, who went there like it was a trip.”

Looking ahead, Capello noted that Inter could meet Manchester City or Sporting in the next round.

“There’s a big difference between those two possibilities, especially if City get players back from injury.”

He closed with cautious optimism about Italian clubs.

“On paper, this draw is good for all three. The opponents are strong, but if our teams play at their best, I remain very positive.”
