The Florida Gators won the NCAA Tournament in San Antonio, as Todd Golden’s squad erased a 12-point second-half deficit in a 65-63 win over Houston. Golden is losing multiple key players from the 2024-25 Florida basketball roster, including the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player, Walter Clayton Jr. He began his career at Iona before returning to his home state to play his final two collegiate seasons for the Gators. The Florida basketball coaching staff will now be looking for Clayton’s replacement in the college basketball transfer portal.

More than half of the top 50 point guards who have entered the portal this offseason are already off the board, including eight of the top 10. With Clayton playing a huge role for Florida this season, Golden will need to work quickly to find another elite transfer scoring option. Florida basketball roster news

Clayton is not the only key member of Florida’s backcourt who will not return, as Alijah Martin and Will Richard exhausted their eligibility as well. Martin arrived at Florida with Final Four experience gained at Florida Atlantic, while Richard is the third of three senior transfers who played a pivotal role in the title run. Denzel Aberdeen, who averaged 7.7 points off the bench behind that trio this season, is an offensive-minded player who will be counted on to step up next season.

Golden has signed two high school players from the 2025 class, with guard Alex Lloyd and wing CJ Ingram both ranked as top-50 players. Lloyd can help fill the gap in the backcourt, but Golden will also be evaluating transfer guards like Xaivian Lee (Princeton), Pop Isaacs (Creighton) and Malachi Smith (Dayton). Florida appears to be in good shape in the frontcourt, with as many as four significant contributors set to return. Get the latest Florida basketball roster news at Swamp247.
