Following a celebrated first fight with plenty of action, Fernando Martinez and Kazuto Ioka run it back on May 11 for the WBA super flyweight title.
Martinez (17-0) put on an incredible offensive effort in the first half of his fight last July against Ioka, hurting the Japanese in the opening seconds of round one. Though Ioka (31-3-1) damaged Martinez’s body late in the fight, the slugger from Argentina dug deep in the championship rounds to secure a win.
The fight saw both combine for over 2,000 punches thrown. Martinez, the IBF champion at the time, landed 369 shots, while Ioka landed 279.

A rematch was set for the end of 2024 but was nixed at the last second.
With unification bouts potentially next for the winner, both fighters look to leave no doubt in the ring. Martinez is ready once again to secure a win in Japan, while Ioka, a multi-division champion, looks for a measure of revenge by holding gold once more.
