Liverpool have secured the renewal they wanted.
Dominik Szoboszlai – whose original deal was expiring in 2028 – has signed a contract extension.
The Hungarian captain will remain at Anfield until 2031 – a huge boost for outgoing sporting director Richard Hughes.

Szoboszlai – who joined the Reds for £60m back in 2023 – had been locked in talks for several months over a new deal.
The official confirmation is on its way and new head coach Andoni Iraola can set about planning for the long-term future with Szoboszlai in mind.
Romano confirms Szoboszlai will be among LFC’s highest earners
Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Szoboszlai will be among Liverpool’s top-paid players on his new deal. The playmaker’s previous contract was said to be worth around £150k per week.
Others ahead of him on the pay scale included Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk – both estimated to be making £400k per week on their last renewals.

Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo meanwhile have both inked renewals worth £277k per week and £250k per week respectively.
Given the part he has played over the last season or two – including winning a Premier League title – it is hard to see the former RB Leipzig midfielder settling for less.
A few months back a Hungarian source reported that he would seek £300k per week in contract negotiations – roughly in line with Romano’s estimate of him becoming one of the best-paid players in the squad.
Liverpool and Szoboszlai agree five-year deal
Liverpool cleared out some high earners over the summer break – reducing the wage bill with the exits of Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate. And that looks to have been enough wiggle room for Richard Hughes to satisfy Szoboszlai’s mammoth demands.

Liverpool see off Szoboszlai transfer threat
Romano also claims that the Liverpool sporting director got in there with his renewal right in the nick of time.
Because had talks stretched on any longer – as in the case of Konate – then Liverpool could well have had to entertain offers for Szoboszlai next summer.
“Also, Szoboszlai, if Liverpool were not going to extend the contract — in a couple of weeks or months, for 2027 — he was going to be a top, top, top target for a top, top, top club,” he says.
“So there were already movements from clubs trying to understand: is he going to sign a new contract at Liverpool or not? So Liverpool did a very good move by getting a new deal done with Szoboszlai.

“If you follow the channel, you know it’s not a surprise, because I’ve been telling you for months that he wanted to sign a new deal and that Liverpool were progressing. And now the agreement is done. So Dominik Szoboszlai is staying at Liverpool with a new deal.”
