Eva Lye sank a clutch birdie on the final hole to win the South Florida Junior PGA Championship on June 17 at Stonebridge Country Club in Boca Raton.

The First Baptist Academy graduate, who was named the Girls Golfer of the Year at May’s Southwest Florida Sports Awards, edged Boca Raton’s Alexandra Phung by one shot to capture the Girls’ 13-18 division title at the Junior PGA.

“Coming to the last hole, I knew I had to birdie it, and I truly believed I would,” Lye said. “Staying joyful in each moment got me through the challenges of a very competitive field.”

Lye shot a 2-under 70 in the final round of the two-day event after carding an even par 72 to open. Another Southwest Florida girls golfer, Estero’s Jensi Krampel, finished tied for third place at the Junior PGA, two shots behind Lye.

By virtue of her victory, Lye earned the opportunity to represent the South Florida PGA at the 49th Boys & Girls Junior PGA Championships, set for July 29-Aug. 1 at the Birck Boilermaker Gulf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.

Lye, who placed eighth overall at the Class 2A state championships last fall, is set to play collegiately at High Point University.
