Getting on base was the name of the game for two highly-regarded Dodgers outfield prospects on Saturday.

Player of the day

Great Lakes matched their season high with 16 runs, so there were plenty of candidates. But we’ll go with Eduardo Quintero, who has been simmering for quite some time. The top-100 prospect doubled twice, drove in four runs, and stole a base on Saturday.

Quintero got off to a rough start this season, hitting just .195/.305/.280 in April, but he’s been very productive pretty much ever since, hitting .362/.464/.468 since May 1, despite not hitting a home run in that span.

His hit streak is now nine games, and he’s reached base in 31 straight games dating back to April 21, the longest on-base streak in Great Lakes Loons history. Quintero’s on-base streak on Saturday surpassed the previous mark of 30 games, set by Miguel Vargas in 2021 and matched by Mike Sirota this season before getting promoted to Double-A in May.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Comets led 2-1 entering the seventh inning but the bullpen allowed crooked numbers in three consecutive innings, losing to the Round Rock Express (Rangers) by seven runs.

Tommy Edman was the designated hitter on Saturday and doubled home one of Oklahoma City’s two runs.

Catcher Eliezer Alfonzo had three hits, including two doubles. Zach Ehrhard had two hits out of the leadoff spot.

Double-A Tulsa

The Drillers were up 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning when rain washed away the rest of the night. The game against the Amarillo Sod Poodles (Diamondbacks) was suspended, with the two teams resuming action on Sunday.

Before the bad weather came, the red-hot Jake Gelof hit another home run, a two-run shot in the top of the second inning.

The aforementioned Sirota has kept his on-base streak going since joining Tulsa. His walk in the first inning gave him 46 straight games reaching base.

High-A Great Lakes

The Loons pounded out a season-high 19 hits and scored 16 runs to rout the Lansing Lugnuts (A’s).

Another Eduardo, first baseman Guerrero, drove in five runs with his two singles and double. Charles Davalan also had three hits, scored two runs, and drove in one. Kole Myers tripled, singled, walked twice, stole two bases, and scored three runs.

Class-A Ontario

Easton Shelton homered twice, including the game-winner in the seventh inning of a one-run win over the Stockton Ports (A’s).

After scoring four runs in the first inning, the Tower Buzzers trailed 5-4 in the sixth inning before Mairo Martinus hit a solo shot to tie things up.

Brady Smith struck out eight in his 3 1/3 innings, with one unearned run allowed on three hits and a walk.

Arizona Complex League

A pair of non-roster invitees from spring training started rehab assignments in the desert on Saturday, both from Oklahoma City. First baseman and outfielder Matt Gorski on Saturday played in his first game since last May 23 for Triple-A Indianapolis in the Pittsburgh Pirates system. As the designated hitter against the ACL Mariners in Peoria, Gorski doubled in each of his first two at-bats, the second a ground-rule double that scored a run.

Chris Campos, the Dodgers’ seventh-round draft pick in 2022 who was one of the final two non-roster pitchers standing in camp, has been on the injured list for six and a half weeks after pitching four games with the Comets in April. He pitched a scoreless inning with a called strikeout on Saturday.

Fellow Comets rehabber Jose Rodriguez struck out three and walked one in a scoreless inning, his second game in Arizona in four days. He’s been on the injured list since the start of the season.

Great Lakes first baseman and outfielder Cameron Decker is also rehabbing in Arizona, in his second week in the desert, having last played for the Loons on May 2. Decker played first base on Saturday in his ninth game for the ACL Dodgers, and was 0-for-2 with a walk. He has five hits in 26 at-bats (.192/.300/.423) thus far on rehab, with three doubles, a home run, and three walks.

Transaction

Triple-A: Right-hander Nick Frasso was added to the 40-man roster and was optioned, remaining with Oklahoma City.
