The 2026 NFL season is finally here! The Philadelphia Eagles will get things underway on Sunday afternoon with an NFC East matchup against the Washington Commanders.
This is the second year in a row that the Eagles open the season with a divisional game, but they beat the Cowboys in 2025, 24-20, and will look for a similar result against the Commanders.

A lot can change in a year, and much of Philadelphia’s offense will look different when Jalen Hurts and Co. take the field on Sunday. The team has a new offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion, who will be up in the booth rather than on the sideline, they’ll be running a completely new system, and have a handful of new skill players to keep an eye on.
Head coach Nick Sirianni spoke this offseason about learning a lesson years ago about putting things on film during the preseason, which is why there’s only been hints and suggestions about how, specifically, the offense will differ this year — more plays from under center, more motions and deception. Not even the Eagles defenders would give a peak into how things might look this season, with Cooper DeJean and Jalyx Hunt both being careful not to divulge anything during media availability in the days leading up to the season opener.
Luckily for the pair, things aren’t so secretive about the Eagles defense. Back under DC Vic Fangio, a majority of this group has three years together, and some new pieces should take it to the next level. They paid Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter in the offseason, have solid depth at linebacker, and as a whole, are expected to be just as dominant as ever.
That doesn’t mean the defense won’t be challenged on Sunday, however. Fangio has to prepare for a new OC in Washington, and he spoke earlier in the week about how difficult mobile quarterbacks, like Jayden Daniels, can make things. Still, the group should shake off any offseason rust quickly, and execute at a high level.
