“He is really smart. He’s very creative. He’s very empathetic,” an Eagles source said. “He’s really good at putting himself in other people’s shoes. He’s fair, and he listens and is making a real attempt to understand everything about the organization.” The Inquirer spent the last several months talking with nearly two dozen Eagles sources, past and present, as well as other NFL sources familiar with the team’s inner workings, about the 31-year-old Lurie. Many sources requested and were granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the subject or felt they couldn’t speak freely if named. The Eagles declined interview requests for the Luries and other key members of the organization for this story. The interviews with sources revealed Julian’s already considerable prominence. They also depicted an intense but thoughtful young man who was born not only into great privilege, but with a shared civic passion for the football team his father bought in 1994, the year before Julian was born. “If I lived in Philadelphia and I was an Eagles fan, I would feel really good about him as a steward of the franchise in the future,” a team source said. “I really do think he cares about the team and the city and the players.”

JTS was suspiciously absent from the Eagles’ media-attended spring practices, including their two-day mandatory minicamp. It’s unclear what changed for him from the time he originally signed with the Eagles on March 30 to him now deciding to retire. Just speculating here but perhaps the late April trade for Jonathan Greenard put a damper on his hopes for a bigger role in Philly. The Eagles will hold his rights if JTS decides to unretire but it looks like he won’t be part of the team in 2026. This development helps to explain why the Eagles recently signed free agent edge rusher A.J. Epenesa.

Not the “End every drive with a kick” horseshit. 🤮 I certainly agree that ball security is a big deal, but the idea that punts are OK is not what you want to hear from the head coach.

Why am I mentioning Sorsby? There are more than a few people who think the Eagles could spend a pick on him. I would say no way, but I said that when Michael Vick was released from prison and the Eagles did sign him. Sorsby is talented. Without the gambling stuff, he had a chance to be a first round pick in the 2027 draft. You can’t ignore the gambling problem, though, and that will hurt his value. There is also the question of whether the NFL will suspend him, even though his issue was in college. Here is Daniel Jeremiah talking about him as a player. I would be fine with adding a talented QB, but I don’t think Jalen Hurts would be so keen on this, unless Sorsby was taken with a later pick. If you spend a second round pick on him, you’re saying this is the guy of the future. In the fourth or fifth, you’re just adding to the QB room. Some team will take a chance on him, likely before the Eagles do. There are still teams looking for a long term solution at QB.

Berman: The biggest disappointment was not seeing much of Makai Lemon this spring because of a hamstring injury. I’m not going to overreact to a spring injury — Cooper DeJean missed the spring in 2024; Campbell missed the spring in 2025 — but it was more the chance to see him in this offense and have a better sense of the post-A.J. Brown receiving corps. The Eagles need Lemon to have a big role this season. He doesn’t need to have Justin Jefferson’s rookie year, but he cannot have Jalen Reagor’s rookie season. Lemon must adjust to the offense quickly during the summer.

I’ll continue to say that I wouldn’t sleep on Dontayvion Wicks as a key piece to the Eagles’ puzzle to replace A.J. Brown. Talent was never his issue in Green Bay.

The Eagles haven’t even gotten to training camp yet and Jonathan Greenard is already excited to play with Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. Really excited. “I think about it all the time,” Greenard said last week. “It’s going to be fun, man, because those are two guys who are selfless but also understand how much impact they can have on the game. I just told them when I got here, ‘Look, I feed off of y’all. I’m just going to let y’all do y’all thing’ and I’ll eventually obviously read and see how they like to play vs. certain opponents. But I’m not here to slow y’all down.”

Dalton didn’t play well during the practices open to the media, throwing a couple of bad interceptions. And yet, the fact that he took second-team reps from McKee while new OC Sean Mannion installs his scheme indicates that the Eagles are really considering him at QB2.

There will be no holdout for the Dallas Cowboys and wide receiver George Pickens. Pickens said it himself on Tuesday. The Cowboys began their mandatory minicamp, and given that it’s mandatory, many wondered whether or not Pickens would show up. This was, of course, because the Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Pickens at the beginning of the offseason. But Pickens signed the tag well before Tuesday which let plenty of air out of the drama balloon. When he spoke after the day’s festivities, he let out what little air remained by pledging to play this season on the tag he signed and stating that he will not be holding out.

Hiring Matt Nagy as OC. I’ll stick with the coaching tree and go with the decision to bring in Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator. I trust Harbaugh, but this one left me scratching my head. What did Nagy do in Kansas City to recommend him? The Chiefs’ offense got worse every year he was there. I get that they had injuries and personnel issues, but so does every team. He had Patrick Mahomes, and the offense went through long stretches of being very predictable and ordinary. I’m hoping for better results with Jaxson Dart and the rest of the offense, but I didn’t like this move.

Brendan Sorsby to NFL supplemental draft: Best traits, fits – ESPN
Which teams are his best fits? Sorsby is an absolute perfect fit for the 2023 Dolphins. In Mike McDaniel’s RPO-heavy system, Sorsby’s light feet and whip-like release would have been ideal for Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle on all those little seams and glances that sat in the voids between coverages. He would have tossed so many moonshots for Hill to run under. And he could have gotten involved in the running game with De’Von Achane and Raheem Mostert. It would have been grand. The 2023 Dolphins no longer exist. But that framework — vertical threats for Sorsby to take shots, a heavy dose of RPOs to keep the reads simple and a willingness to involve the QB in the designed running game — is the one we should track for Sorsby’s best offense fits in the league. Of course, the measure of a team fit is more than the scheme. Some teams simply won’t touch Sorsby because of the gambling scandal. But the fits I’ve listed below are entirely about on-field skill sets.
