It’s been over five years since Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor last faced off in the octagon, but there’s clearly still no love lost between the two prize fighters.

While discussing McGregor’s surprising knee injury that ended his main event bout with Max Halloway at UFC 329 prematurely, Poirier didn’t hold back.

“I thought it couldn’t have happened to a better guy. That injury couldn’t have happened to a better guy. Earlier this week, he said karma is a mirror, and it definitely is,” Poirier said.

“This guy is a dirtbag, and I don’t know if it was nervous energy or what. I don’t know why you would start a fight like that.”

McGregor injured his right knee in the opening seconds of the fight after trying to throw a flying left kick, and the former double champion’s approach to the fight left Poirier flummoxed.

“I don’t know why you would start a fight like that. They’re saying this was planned to start the fight like that, and there’s footage of him training to open the fight with this jump kick,” Poirier said.

“But I just don’t understand why you would do that. It’s like a Hail Mary, you’re throwing a Hail Mary to start a 25-minute fight. I don’t understand what was going on with that.”

It doesn’t sound like we should expect Poirier and McGregor to meet up for beers anytime soon, especially since both seem to be battling issues with alcohol outside of the octagon.

But, while we won’t see them sharing a pint, we could potentially see Poirier and McGregor square off in the octagon again, as Poirier said that he would end his current retirement to run it back with McGregor one more time at Welterweight.

“Whenever he is healed up, hit me up, Conor,” Poirier said. “I’ll come back and whip you again. I would come back to whip him again at 170.”
