The 25/26 season is looming as a key one in the development of Divine Mukasa as a player. Since signing for Manchester City from West Ham, Mukasa has quickly established himself as one of the brightest young prospects at the club. This season, he has spent considerable time training with Pep Guardiola’s squad. Mukasa has also made his senior first-team debut in Manchester City’s 2-nil Carabao Cup third-round tie win over Huddersfield Town.
It may take time for Divine Mukasa to establish himself in Pep Guardiola’s squad. But the path he is on is similar to the one walked by Phil Foden, Nico O’Reilly, Rico Lewis and Oscar Bobb. If he bides his time, Divine Mukasa will eventually become a key component in the Manchester City squad.
Manchester City had no intention of letting Divine Mukasa leave the club on loan.
A report from Nathan Salt for the Daily Mail shows just how highly regarded Divine Mukasa is at Manchester City. It is reported by Salt that Cardiff City were eager to sign Mukasa on loan for the 25/26 season. It is also reported by Salt that there is a belief amongst those in youth football circles that Mukasa’s development as a player will be aided by a loan move away from Manchester City. As per Nathan Salt’s report, Pep Guardiola had no interest in sending Divine Mukasa out on loan. The City manager wants Mukasa to learn his trade at City, so he is set to spend this season training with the City first-team, learning what it takes to make it at Manchester City.
Divine Mukasa is on a similar path to that taken by Phil Foden and others.
While there is merit to the idea of Divine Mukasa going out on loan, staying at Manchester City and training with the City first-team while learning his craft is a good move for the young attacking midfielder. Mukasa is only 18 years of age, and with his talent and potential, he still needs to mature as a player. Learning from players such as Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Rodri and others is the perfect learning environment for a player like Mukasa. Training with some of the best players in the world consistently will raise the level of Mukasa’s play. The fact that he has settled into the City first-team squad speaks volumes about Mukasa’s temperament which goes well with his undoubted talent.
Players such as Phil Foden, Nico O’Reilly, Oscar Bobb and Rico Lewis have risen through Manchester City’s academy and become key players at the club. They served their time training with the City first-team before seizing their opportunity. Divine Mukasa is on a similar trajectory to those four players. If Mukasa continues to train well, and impress when given the opportunity to play, like he did against Huddersfield Town, his time will come. He is too good a talent for that not to occur. This season is about learning for Divine Mukasa and he looks to be on a path walked by Foden, O’Reilly, Lewis and Bobb. The rewards will come for Divine Mukasa in time.
Divine Mukasa is in the ideal environment for him to learn and grow as a player. He doesn’t need to go out on loan to fulfil his undoubted potential. Staying at Manchester City is the right path for Mukasa. Given how much he has shown at City already it won’t be long before his time comes as a City first-team player.
